Virginia Center for Montessori Studies

Virginia Center for Montessori Studies (VCMS) is a division of West End Montessori School.  Founded in 1997, WEMS has an enrollment of 120 children ranging from 18 months to sixth grade. The campus is located in Richmond’s suburban West End.  VCMS has applied for affiliation with the American Montessori Society (AMS) and accreditation from the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE).

VCMS seeks to provide a teacher education program which honors the authentic Montessori method of education.  Students are provided with an intellectual, practical and spiritual exploration of Montessori philosophy and methodology.  A blend of theory and hands on experience leads students to discover for themselves the underlying truths of the Montessori approach.

VCMS offers a Montessori teacher education program which leads to teacher certification at the Early Childhood level (ages 2.5 to 6).  The course cycle runs for one year; students may opt to complete the course requirements in one or two years.

Should you have any additional questions regarding any aspect of VCMS, please contact Castle O’Neill via email or by phone.
