The Montessori Teacher Assistant; 9:00 am
– 4:00 pm
An Introduction to the
principles of Montessori Theory and Method, the Curriculum areas and the
important work of the Montessori Adult in the classroom. This workshop will
explain the characteristics of the Early Childhood and Elementary level
students and the importance of the Montessori prepared learning
environment. The role and responsibility of the Montessori adult, classroom
management and professional interaction with parents and co-workers will be
addressed. Presenter, Vickie Turnamian has been a
Lead Classroom Teacher at West End Montessori School for over 10 years. She
is VCMS’s Practical Life Instructor and has a strong understanding of the
role of the Assistant in the classroom. Cost is $100 per person.

The Power of 26
Symbols: From Writing to Reading; 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
THE MOVEABLE ALPHABET: The
iconic Montessori material that concretely demonstrates the concept that
writing precedes reading. Rediscover the possibilities to unlock creative
expression, develop writing skills and build a foundation for decoding and
blending. Use the child’s interests to explore the intricacies of the
alphabet … the power of 26 symbols! Presenter: Mary MacIntosh;
Mary MacIntosh holds a M.Ed, and AMI Early Childhood Certification,
with over 25 years of classroom teaching and adult education experience.
Her professional career includes Montessori Head of School positions and
educational consulting. She is a regular presenter at AMS conferences and
local Montessori schools. Cost: $50 per person
Make It and Take It:
Food preparation ideas that you can use!; 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Food Preparation is a wonderful
Montessori classroom experience, but it can seem overwhelming and labor
intensive. Come and learn some great food preparation ideas and new ways to
make it easy for your school to do food preparation every week!
Participants will make and take one complete food preparation activity to
use in their classroom. Presenter: Kelley Granger; Kelley
Granger is a Certified Montessori Teacher with over 15 years of experience
in the classroom. Food preparation is a weekly activity in her class and
she developed a summer program for cooking in a Montessori environment.
Cost: $70 per person (includes materials)

8:30 am Gathering for Coffee and Bagels. Workshops begin promptly
at 9:00.
A 10% discount is offered to schools sending three or more
participants.
