The Mission of the Virginia Center for Montessori Studies (VCMS) is to prepare teachers to facilitate in children a sense of self-confidence that encourages inquisitiveness, initiative, independence and joy in learning.  We hope to foster the development of caring, respectful individuals who will have a positive influence on the world throughout their lives.

Virginia Center for Montessori Studies is a two-year program designed for continuous support, guidance and coaching throughout the academic and practicum phases. 

Academic Phase:

• Summer:  Foundational knowledge in theory, teaching method and program, and curriculum prior to first year of student teaching.

• Weekend Seminars:  Curriculum and teaching method instruction completed over the two year program.

Practicum Phase:

• The two-year practicum provides a supervised teaching and learning experience for the adult learner.
