The Primary Class Prepared Environment is set
within six areas:
-
Based on a child’s experiences at home,
Practical Life
utilizes the child’s need to develop good work habits, concentration,
eye–hand coordination, a lengthened attention span, and control of his body.
-
Sensorial
activities act as a guide to classify those sensory impressions already
perceived and those of the future. Each material focuses on a single quality
(color, shape, length, etc.) in order to make future classification and
abstractions easier.
-
Montessori believed that the sensitive period
for Language
(ages 2.5 – 5 years) should be used to enlarge the child’s vocabulary in all
aspects of the human knowledge. Language can then provide a means of
expression for precise and logical communication, organization to develop
order, and acquisition of self–confidence by opportunities to communicate
with others.
-
The
Math materials develop the numerical
language and the specific concepts that allow for progress to eventual
memorization of number operations and facts.
-
Science
materials help the children to discover the natural order of their
environment.
-
The
Geography materials provide a
sequential exposure to the continents, countries, and cultures of the world.
Music Together® and Spanish are also an integral
part of the environment. |
