Course Description:  An introduction to Montessori principles of child development and educational methods, including teaching techniques, transitions and classroom procedures.  The philosophy specific to the Montessori method of education will be explored including core concepts such as the absorbent mind, sensitive periods, the mathematical mind and the spiritual and moral development of the mind.  The life of Maria Montessori and the history of the Montessori movement will be presented.  The relationship between the Montessori philosophy, the prepared environment, the adult and the child will be examined.
